Space Day 2nd May 2008

May 2nd 2008 is Space Day!:marsrover Okay, so it's an American special day, but why can't we enjoy it too? After all, it's our planet as well!

Space Day is a good website with lots of information, there is a 'tool kit' which is a 122 page PDF (also available as a word doc) teaching resource that can be downloaded as one PDF or in much smaller sections if you want to be pickier about subject matter. I know it will be primarily aimed at older kids, but I'm sure some of these ideas can be simplified. I've just had a quick look (yes, I've downloaded all 122 pages! ) and there is an activity called 'comet cratering'. Basically you drop various size and weight balls into powder to create craters, little ones will love that!:D At the very end are many, many links to other space websites. I would just pick and choose the smaller files as I think some of the activities would be beyond my 6 year old!:sarcastic

NASA For Kids Cool site, but as NASA has always provided space education for children, there no surprise there! In the Space Kids section, you can send you name to Mars!!:wide-eyed There are stories, resources, games and quizzes aplenty on this site, I keep finding something new every time I visit! :D (I'm a space-nut!)

Kids Astronomy has colouring pages and more.

Also, Space Colouring pages

Spaced out day would be more fitting for me...lol

They have just done space in our foundation classes and made a space station out of foil. The kids loved it until the chicks hatched in the incubator and then nothing else mattered!
