Dinosaurs in Ice

Recreate an Ice Age sensory experience in your water tray or wet play area.

Line large mixing bowls with clear plastic film - Fill 3/4 full with water and add a few small world Plastic Dinosaurs.

Leave in the freezer until solid - then turn out your Dinosaur mountain and let the children pour over warm (food coloured ?) water to break the dinosaurs out !!

what a great idea

now to find those dinosaurs that get every where...... we have the small rubber ones that were once a counting set i think. they get in everything

sparkly icebergs

put sequins and shiny things in the ice add a couple of polar bears and penguins - for a different approach to this activity

i went to a training course recently and the trainer said

ask yourself - is this activity irresistable!!! this applies to any activity
the children should not be able to resist cos its so exciting

we did this today. i filled a carrier bag with water, small dinosaurs, bugs and counting bears!

popped it in the ice compartment of the fridge (for an hour and half) out came about a 1 inch thick piece of ice. with the bugs etc sticking out
into the tought spot it went, outside. the children loved it

best bit of all was when i aksed one of the older lads (off to school in sept) what was happening he said " well, the water is warmer than the ice and is melting it" couldnt belive it!! was lovely.

in the ice box overnight is plastic cups of water and bugs etc. so they last a little longer.

thank you they loved it

I (i am a nursery manager) prompted this activity with Toddler staff who work with children aged 2-3 this week, A member of staff lined a lrg mixing bowl with cling film and filled it with dinosaurs, green trees, small wooden logs and stones. She tipped it out into a tidgy tub (when frozen) and added some warmer water......the toddlers loved it (some never left it!!) they enjoyed watching the ice melt and trying to chip the dinosaurs free with tools. "They just loved the ice experience"

We will be trying this as an artic experience with penguins, polar bears etc and glitter flakes.........i'm so excited!

If you haven't tried it - you should!!!!!!!!!
