Writing your own definition as requested ensures you avoid any plagiarism :) This is based on page 100 of the cache handbook - amazon.co.uk It is important to recognise that children and young people have a right to participation in the key decisions that affect their lives. Article 12 of the United Nations onvention on the Rights of the hilds tates that children should have the opportunity to express their views on matters that concern/are about them, and to have those views taken into account when decisions are made. It is good practice to share your observations/things that you've been made aware of with the child, taking account of their age and development. With very young children, you may want to look at photos together and consider the child's rresponses (smiles, frowns, lack of interest etc). Many children from the age three upwards will be able to talk to you for a time. Using feedback from young children, you can consider their personal choices and preferences when deciding on the provision of activities.Older children and young people can be encouraged to express their opinions and feelings about their learning activities, the targets that might of been set for them and if the child has an interest in achieving them. Recent research into consultation with pupils found that children's learning experiences could be imp[roved if tasks were more closely aligned with the social worlds in which they lived, both inside and outside the setting. Participants said they found it helpful when teachrs used materials, objects and images with which they were already familiar. Active participation helpful check ..
