What barriers to participation might be e.g. attitudes, language, mobility; lack of information/knowledge of the benefits of children’s services, environmental barriers, discrimination and how you would ensure these were recognised and removed.
i have been looking at this question for ages, the stupid thing is i swear i have covered it in another question I need some guidance:dizzy: |
i gave examples like - a wheel chair user-- how would you make the setting accessible before the child comes into the setting, eg- ramps, lifts??
i also put speech difficulties or a child who only communicates through sign language/makaton-- i said make sure that staff are aware of the situation, that there is at least one member of staff who can communicate with the child, around the classroom you could put up the signs the child is using. hope this helps x |
barriers may be travelling families unfamiliar with area,young parents,financial problems,language difficulties,transport,special needs discrimination,lack of transport.
solutions, advertising on radio,notice boards,funding for the less fortunate by the government,county coucil,specialised equipment for special needs and specialised help(lots of space for wheelchair users)toilet facilities for disabled. staff speaking different languages or trained in specific areas. |
Barriers to participation are factors that may make it difficult for families from accessing services they are eligible for.
These barriers can often come about from discrimination. Other contributing factors may be; social status lack of education (teenage parents or simply notbeing aware provisions are there and available) language barriers and disabilities new to the area You can give an example for each of the above mentoned |
