Frozen Paint Colours - Play activity for Early Years +

:cheerful: Paint with frozen blocks of readymade or made up powder paint !!

INSTRUCTIONS
Make up the paints so that they are 'cream' thickness.
Pour into a number of small pots - junk modelling fromage frais pots would be a good size !
Place a stick into the centre of each pot and hold this in an upright position by 'pegging' it ~ use clothes peg and rest it across the rim of the pot.

Place all pots on a large tray & into the freezer.

Once frozen solid remove the clothes peg and prise the mould from the pot.
Run under a little warm water to help move them out.

If you experience problems getting your paint moulds out - you could try lining each one with clear plastic film first - then adding the paint .. this can sometimes help ease the blocks out.

Lay large sheets of paper (wallpaper lining paper is good for this) and let the children , skid, slide and glide the blocks around.

SCIENCE

This is a great activity from the science aspect of making the frozen paint blocks from scratch... through to the free play painting experience ..
  • Talk to the children about the 'runny water & paint.
  • What experiences of the children had of Ice before ~ in drinks or as frozen puddles outside?
  • Opposites - Hot & Cold, Fluid & Solid
If you are doing individual colours as a theme -

make One colour of paint into different shapes moulds - Star, Moon, Heart ..

Get the children to paint a picture of something in your chosen colour - Yellow Sun or Duckling.

Colour themed book titles

Have fun ...
