I like open ended activities that children can explore and discover. Things like scarves and pieces of fabric and crates and planks and stuff like that. Children can use them however they like, and they can be different things every day. A mass produced car mat might look nice, but give children a big piece of card and some crayons and they can design their own - and then do it differently tomorrow. Some people prefer toys made only out of natural materials and others like only plastics. I like a mix of each; I like Duplo because there are more opportunities for success (the bricks click together) and I like plain wooden bricks because they can be simpler to stack.
Open-ended experiences generally are better because they encourage children to learn and want to question more
