Cow Hitch Knot

This simple knot procedure is one that the children can use to fasten lengths of materials to surfaces, items with or without pre-formed loops.
Door handles, Low level washing lines, Clothes Hangers - mobiles, items with punched holes in them ..

Slowly show how to cut a 'sensible length of string
and how to double it - matching the ends together.

Pass the *Loop underneath whatever the string is to be attached to ...

Fold up both 'loose ends and slot them through the loop ..

Pull downwards, in a gentle fashion so that the cord doesn't break away.

Manoevure the string so that a knot is formed on the cord.
*Loop - is the keyword hat enables the fastening of the knot technique, the Children may or may not be familiar with what it is.
Finger trace the outline of the string's loop and explain that it works by 'looping over and around things.
Take it slowly, expect questions and if possible to give examples ...
