YOU WILL NEED ~ For the Pencil
One Pencil each ~ Silky ribbon/Tissue paper ~ threadable beads ~ Sharpener ~ Sticky tape.

How to make the pencil
Display all the materials that you will use to make the cards and talk to the children about each ones purpose and reason for choice.
Let the Children choose their own ‘wrapping medium …  this could be the strips of tissue paper or Satin ribbon ~ do they know what colour their mum would like?
Sharpen the pencil and make sure the lead is secure and not dangerously pointed !
Secure one end of the wrap to top of the pencil with sticky tape.
Slowly wind it around the pencil as tightly as possible and fasten off at the bottom with some more sticky tape.
Thread a bead onto each end of a length of ribbon ~ this could be done before hand if wished !
Knot it to the top of the pencil so that the beads dangle.

YOU WILL NEED ~ For the Card
One printout of the main card onto white card ~ Copy the Heart templates
Red & Pink felt fabric ~ Sharp knife ~ PVA glue

How to make the Card
Print out the card with the wording of your choice.
With a sharp knife score both horizontal lines.
Gently slot the pen through the two slits.

Slide the pencil through the two scored lines.

Cut 1 large heart from red felt and 1 small heart from pink.
Glue to the top of the slits.

Decorate the top with a red & pink felt heart.

Wherever possible ask the children to write their names on the card with the pencil before slotting it into the card!
For the younger children use the plain card and take a painted handprint as their ‘signature.
