Elephant's Shower ~ Craft Activity

Craft activities for Preschool and Early Years: Projects that help explore materials and properties...
Elephant's Shower Craft Project
Child and Adult Craft Activity

Print and use at home or in your classroom ...
This Crafting activity is based on the action of water in a shower.
Use it as a conversation opener into hygiene and personal ways of keeping clean.
Talk about how Elephants use their trunks to squirt water over themselves to wash!

Activity – Using fingers (fine motor skills) to help Elephant take a shower!

Use this craft as an opportunity to discuss hygiene and how the children keep clean – do they shower or take a bath? Wash their faces and hands, what sort of soaps do they use – if any, who helps them to wash and if they like washing!!

You will need

Copy of Elephant’s body and trunk-copied onto card
                          Paper ring reinforcement
                          Small bead per elephant (optional)
Variety of blue papers for water droplets
                          Stick glue
                          Blue wool/cord/string
Colouring pencils or elephant coloured collage materials!

Print off Elephant’s body and trunk (also water droplet if wished) – cut out. Gently fold
Elephant body in half and cut out the black circular area (this is where children will slot their fingers through to control trunk and droplets!)
Fold down the trunk tab and stick to the dashed line beneath Elephant’s eyes.
 Colour or collage elephant.
Use a paper punch to cut out the small hole at the end of the trunk. Stick on a ring reinforcement to strengthen the area.
Tie a length of wool/cord to this hole and if you have beads – tie one securely to the other end of wool. (this will add weight to the wool and help the child to ‘flick’ their water droplets around)
Cut out many water droplets from a variety of blue coloured papers and using the stick glue attach back to back along the length of wool
Play with Elephant by pushing two fingers through the cut out hole and manipulating the trunk in an up and down movement that will cause the wool to flick around giving him a shower!
