Composting at Home and in Preschool
Making your own compost for a range of reasons can be fun & rewarding.
It helps show the children that simple routines can benefit our world and their garden area!

 Ways to use your compost
 For growing seeds in pots ... easy ones are 
      Flowers:- sunflowers, sweet pea, nasturtium  
      Vegetable:-  runner beans, garden peas

 For house plants or plants to keep in your setting.
 As a mulch for existing tubs and planters.
 Make a window box herb tray!
 Tyre layered potato tub!

 What to compost
 Practically anything that once lived can be put in the compost heap.

All fruit and veg peelings/cores
Tea bags 
grass mowings
weeds and old plants
Sawdust
Sand
Shredded paper
Hay/straw pet bedding

 How to compost
 AIR - is probably the most important thing to remember when composting.
       layering the compost is good.

 Where to put a compost heap
 Position is important so here are a few points to consider
      Don't place the bin too far out of the way. 
      Compost heaps can get quite hot.
      They can also attract flies. 
       Don't place the bin in full sun.

 If you have a lot of waste items that could be composted. Write them down on this list and hang it up in your kitchen/setting area -->
Compost List
 Try to have 2 bins available - one for the composting items and another for normal waste.
